Xavier Bettel on a working visit to Warsaw
On 30 January 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Xavier Bettel paid a working visit to Warsaw, Poland. During his visit, he met with his Polish counterpart, Radosław Sikorski.
Discussions focused on bilateral relations between Luxembourg and Poland, as well as ways to further strengthen cooperation, particularly in the economic and trade sectors. Poland is currently Luxembourg's eighth-largest trading partner within the European Union, while Luxembourg is among the leading European investors in Poland.
Minister Bettel emphasised Luxembourg's special attachment to the Polish people. The Polish diaspora continues to be the 9th largest foreign community in Luxembourg, with approximately 5,150 Polish citizens, playing an important role in linking the two countries.
The ministers reaffirmed their common commitment to European unity, the values of the European Union, multilateralism and NATO, particularly in the current geopolitical context.
They also discussed current international issues, including the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East.
Regarding Ukraine, the two ministers reiterated their support, particularly in the face of the energy crisis triggered by Russian attacks. They stressed that any peace negotiations must be acceptable to Ukraine and fully involve the European Union.
During this visit, Minister Bettel also received, on behalf of Luxembourg, the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland (Krzyż Wielki Orderu Zasługi RP)
